Mumbai: Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has expressed her disapproval over the Cannes Film Festival's practice of only allowing women in heels at the gala. The 64-year-old actress, who has attended the festival in the past and also served as a jury member, said she was shocked to read reports that women in flats were denied entry at the festival.

"Shocking report that Cannes bans flats on red carpet! Director of 'Amy', Asif Kapadia says his wife was given rough time too. Unacceptable surely," Azmi posted on twitter. Earlier Hollywood actress Emily Blunt had also criticised the Festival's reported practice though festival director Thierry Frémaux had denied that there was any such rule.

Women in today’s society are bombarded with the media’s interpretation of what constitutes beauty. It’s been said that, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” However, if every female celebrity our eyes “behold,” is ravishingly attractive, it can be difficult to comprehend that many of the most famous women are, in fact, unattractive in real life. If you are wondering how the rich and famous can be so amazingly flawless and seemingly perfect, read on. The following article will reveal 10 of Hollywood’s leading ladies that are actually unattractive in real life.
Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey

1. Oprah Winfrey: Rags to Riches…then back to Rags?

Oprah is well known for being one of America’s wealthiest women of all time. She often reminisces about her humble beginnings and the hard work and persistence it took to get her where she is today. With all that money flying around, she is very fortunate to have access to the best: agents, personal chefs and trainers, makeup artists, and beauty products, money can buy.
What a large segment of the population doesn’t realize, is that if Oprah was walking around amongst us is our own town, we might not recognize her for being anyone famous. That may very well be why she had trouble with an employee at a Swiss Boutique, when asking to see a 38K bag. One blogger made mention that without makeup, Oprah looks similar to the way she did when she played Sofia in the Color Purple. Her face looks older and more fatigued; her eyes have dark circles underneath (bags included,) and her hair is very nappy. She does own a huge collection of wigs, which covers that issue; and her money, fame, and notoriety, covers the rest.

2. Lady Gaga-Stephani Joanne Angeline Germanotta: Goddess or Average in Disguise?

Lady gaga 2011
If anyone has seen Lady Gaga perform, they will know that she is a provocative singer/songwriter, whose shows are more like watching a story unfold. With dynamic costumes, and a flare for the wild-side, this Lady is a force to be reckoned with. She is an outspoken activist for the LGBT community; and she also formed the, “Born This Way” foundation; which is named after one of her songs, and supports anti-bullying. It’s obvious that there is more to Lady Gaga than sitting on a throne commanding praise and attention.
When the costumes, glitter, false eyelashes, and bling come off, what’s behind the mask is very different than what we are used to seeing. We go Ga Ga for her sharp and exotic features; but without her glamorous get ups, this gay icon and pop sensation, is very gaunt and masculine looking. What’s great about her personality though, is that she just doesn’t really care. She brags about never having had plastic surgery; and her bold confidence definitely put her, “On the Edge of Glory,” even while lounging around the house.

3. Cameron Diaz: Real Life Fiona?

Cameron Diaz: Hidup Jauh Lebih Mudah Tanpa Kehadiran Anak-anak

Cameron Diaz has become one of America’s sweethearts. Starring in heartwarming dramas, and slapstick comedies, she really draws her audience to fall in love with her. She is probably one of the most endearing actresses of her time. What many may not be aware of, is that she began her celebrity journey at the tender age of 16, as a fashion model.
When spotted at the gym on numerous occasions, she appears very washed out. Some of her most unique features on screen, become a little less appealing when she is all natural. Her light complexion causes her cute dimples to fade, her wide spread eyes to look drab, and overall, her face becomes very featureless. For being in her 40’s, her body is in top shape; and working out is not easy to do in red carpet garb. When it comes to Cameron Diaz, we love her for who she is; with or without makeup.

4. Khloe Kardashian: Reality Show Diva, or Guest on Jerry Springer?

Khloe Kardashian

Khloe, along with her sisters; Kourtney, and Kim, have really got it going on. The whole family is the water cooler talk sensation of the last several years. Her lavish lifestyle, and seemingly perfect looks, are the envy of thousands of women.
An internet search of Khloe Kardashian in real life, unveils a picture of her in sweat pants, a ponytail, and no makeup. The fact that she is so completely unrecognizable compared to what the public is used to seeing, is almost shocking. It will definitely cause a person to really study the “before and after” shots to make sure someone isn’t pulling a fast one. It’s unlikely that the Kardashian magic is going to disappear anytime soon; and neither will her fan’s loyalty.

5. Fergie-Stacy Ann Ferguson: Why so Glum Chum?

Fergie

This singer/songwriter is not only a female vocalist for the Black Eyed Peas, but she is also a solo artist. Fergie is a powerful singer with a strong message to send. Years ago, she struggled with a meth addiction that left her determined to pursue life with an even higher level of vigor.
This confident and highly talented pop star, doesn’t twinkle quite as bright in every day life. She shows up on many web pages as being a star that is not as attractive in real life. When all dolled up, she uses a lot of concealer on her jawline to hide her jowls and minimize lines; without it, she looks much more aged, and her face seems to have a pouty scowl. She does indeed have a great voice though, and her singing has carried her past any physical imperfections she may have.

6. Nicole Richie-Nicole Camille Escoredo: Ever Heard of a Good Home Cooked Meal?

nicole richie

Nicole Richey became famous while appearing on a “Simple Life” with her friend Paris Hilton. As an American fashion designer, author, singer, and TV personality, this gal is highly versatile. She has proved to America that it really is possible to follow your dreams and become anything you want to be.
Several photos of her without her designer clothing and perfectly blended makeup, showcase a Nicole that looks anything but extraordinaire. At first glance, one might think they are viewing a photo of an anorexic junkie. Her eyes seem too huge for her tiny face, and her head, too huge for her skeletal body. Her complexion is sallow, and all of her features seem to fade and blend in to nothingness. She need not fear though, with her motivation and drive, she will be a sure success; regardless of how she appears in real life.

7. Tyra Banks: Beam Me Up Scotty

Tyra Banks

Who hasn’t heard of this famous Super Model? Tyra Banks has made her mark in society; and is well known not only nationally, but worldwide as well. Tyra was the first African American woman to grace the pages of GQ and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. In 1997, she was awarded VH1’s Super Model of the Year, and from there, progressed to a Victoria’s Secret Angel from 1997-2007. Most recently, she is known for being a judge on America’s Next Top Model. It’s a good thing no one is judging her off camera though.
Tyra will be the first to admit that she was unfortunately blessed with a “five head.” Without makeup, her forehead is prominent, her complexion much paler; resulting in an alien type look. It doesn’t seem to matter though, Tyra has proven that with the right attitude, not to mention; body, style, and the right makeup; it is possible to achieve greatness.

8. Queen Latifa – Dana Elaine Owens: Graceful Gangsta’?

Queen Latifa

Queen Latifa is another example of someone who has spread her wings in several areas of stardom and fame. In her beginning years, she quickly became a well known singer and hip hop pioneer feminist. From there, she moved on to acting in several well known movies, alongside other famous singers and actors. All that didn’t slow her down, as she now hosts her own daytime talk show.
Off camera though, the Queen seems to have been transplanted straight off New York’s famous Queens Street. She has a look that gives off a vibe that says; “Don’t you dare run into me in a dark alley!” Good thing this multi-talented celebrity has a cosmetic line of her own for women of color named, Covergirl Queen Latifa Collection.

9. Madonna: Material Girl, or Matured Woman

Madonna By Alessiaruggiero D7 Pizs 8

It’s amazing that someone in their mid-fifties could still look and sound so hot on stage. Madonna is truly a legend of her time, and will be famous for generations to come. She also branched out in her career to not only sing, but to act, and speak out for various causes.
One statement that seems to be standard when describing Madonna in real life though, is, “barely recognizable.” She seems to carry a look of contempt on her face, and also that of someone who has led a very hard life. For someone who isn’t too far off from qualifying for senior benefits and programs though, you have to admit; she definitely ain’t all that shabby!

10. Penelope Cruz: Plain Jane?

Pen Lope Cruz Leaked 2

Livin’ La Vida Loca seems to be Penelope’s style. While very slim and sophisticated, she also gives us a glimpse of her sassy side. in 2007, she ranked #58 of the hot 100, in Maxim Magazine. She starred in many well known movie blockbusters; and her Latina “girl next door” persona, is a hit with both male and female fans. The gals love her sweet, yet confident beauty; while the guys drool over her saucy Latina sexiness.
Like other celebrities, Penelope Cruz has also become the poster child for famous cosmetic lines. In 2007, she was a spokes-model for L’Oreal Paris Natural Match hair dye and mascara. Having this to fall back on is good for her because Penelope tends to look a little “Plain Jane” without a little cosmetic altering. Undoubtedly, many of her followers seem to be drawn to her natural look; but for the most part, she would definitely not stand out in a crowd.

On the flip side; Megan Fox, Beyonce, Heidi Klum, and Demi Lovato, seem to shine both on camera and off. Some celebrities are hard to identify without makeup and glam, simply because we are so used to seeing them in full glory. This especially seems to be the case when they use a lot of bronzer and eye makeup; both of these tend to sculpt their faces into a different bone structure. It’s almost as if we are viewing an optical illusion of that person. The fact is, most of us look a little better with some assistance from the fashion and cosmetic industry; however, the more people see us in our natural state, the more likely they are to become familiar with, and appreciate, our natural beauty.

Finally, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani has seen the light of the day with Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra joining the cast. But history has it that the film has undergone several changes in its casting ever since it was conceptualised.

Old 'Bajirao Mastani' poster featuring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor still in Sanjay Bhansali's office?

Initially the film was planned to go on floors after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Salman Khan and Rani Mukerji in lead roles. But after Aishwarya and Salman's love affair went kaput, SLB decided to cast Kareena as Mastani. It was then that Salman and Kareena even shot for the film's poster. Salman has even cropped his hair for the poster back then.

Post that, the film still took a long time to go on floors and in between that, Sanjay and Salman had a major showdown post which Sanjay decided to cast Hrithik Roshan for the film. And that too did not fall in place. And rumours had it that the director then approached Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan, both of whom turned down the role.

It was only after Ram Leela's success that he decided to make his ambitious film with Ranveer and Deepika in the lead playing Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani with his Mary Kom heroine Priyanka Chopra playing Kashibai!

But we hear that the old poster featuring Salman and Kareena still lies in SLB office! Such memories, we say.

Her last film Daawat-e-Ishq didn't fare well at the box office nor did it manage to impress the audience. But Pari isn't really worried because she is all geared up to charm the masses with her new film and her completely new avatar…

Parineeti Chopra: People need to stop saying that I dress badly!

She is fierce, she is funny and she is smoking hot – that's the new Parineeti Chopra in a nutshell. As always, it was super fun to chat with Pari but before we got down to business, she told us she won't entertain any boring questions. Read on to know how our conversation turned out to be…

How have you managed not to have any cat fights with any of your contemporaries so far ?
Arey….we are such good people...we don't fight with anyone...we are so nice (laughs). Jokes apart, I will tell you what really it is. You know we genuinely like each other and most of us know each other even before we became actors. So there is no reason to suddenly not like each other. That bond has carried forward. Also, we know that there is work for everyone and I don't need to cut you to get your film. We all have different personalities and we are getting films accordingly. We spend so much time with each other and party together that there is no time for a fight. And I don't why this is surprising. If there is an article which comes out, I can call them up and say, 'listen this is what I said and this is what is written so please ignore.' Otherwise somebody else can start judging you.

What made you sign Kill Dil?
The director! I was dying to do a film with Shaad sir. He is one of those directors on your wishlist. And the first thing said to me when the film was offered to me was that it will be directed by Shaad. That was like the first tick on the check list. Then they said we need you to be only in western avatar. So that was the second tick and the it was Yash Raj Films so what else would you want. It was just awesome doing the film.

Initially, you were criticized for fashion but people are praising you for your style.
I honestly and genuinely feel relieved and I really worked hard at it. You know fashion is one area which has never been my strength. In the beginning, I just didn't know what would look nice on me. When someone would say oh this is Louis Vuitton, you should wear it, I would wear it and look shit in it. I had no idea. But then I realised that you first need to understand your body. And that along with having a good stylist is very important. Also, I need people to stop saying that I dress badly. I need them to say, 'Oh she dresses well, she acts well.' I don't want any negativity around me. So I want to improve that.

Sonam Kapoor recently applauded you for blasting some reporters. Comment.
Approval by another girl is always great and approval by another actress is even better. Honestly, I spoke with a lot of respect and in both instances it was a guy who was being dumb. I am not some bhartiya naari with agenda but in both these instances I felt the need to voice myself. Also, I am an actress so if I say something I feel it will make a difference, so I said it. But it's not my hobby to blast reporters (laughs).

After Kill Dil, you will be taking a break for eight to nine months?
I meant to say that my next release will be probably after eight to nine months. Even if I start shooting now, it will be ready after eight to nine months...itna time lagta hai. The Saif (Ali Khan) film is signed but we are not shooting because he was busy and I was too with Kill Dil. So we have pushed it and we don't know when we are going to start shooting for it. So I don't know what my next film is going be right now. Let's see how Kill Dil does and then I will take decisions.

Akshara Haasan has received praise from the highest quarters, and papa Kamal Haasan says he is jealous.

Big B praises Akshara Haasan's performance

It seems the Big B saw rushes of B Balki's Shamitabh in which Akshara makes her debut alongside the Big B, and sent her a message of appreciation. Says the proud papa in mock-jealousy, "Amitji texted Akshara. I told her she's one-up on me because I never received any text from him praising my performance."

On a more serious note, Kamal Haasan is excited about his younger daughter's acting debut. "Like my elder one Shruti, Akshara has done what she has to. She started by assisting Rahul Dholakia. Then before I knew it she had signed her first film as an actor."

Incidentally Akshara's immediate co-star in Shamitabh is Dhanush who has done a Tamil film with Akshara's sister and is said to be "extremely protective" of Akshara.

Says a source from the Shamitabh team, "Dhanush helps Akshara with her lines, bails her out when she gets stuck in a scene. He is very much the protective friend on the sets."

If there is one actress who singularly embodies Bollywood’s charisma, enigma, glamour and giddy stardom, it is Rekha.

Ever so sparkling, stunning and sophisticated, the actress didn’t start out on an impressive note. Far from it, she was ridiculed for her chubby, gawky demeanour even though her debutSaawan Bhadon was a box office success.

The teenager took the criticism in her stride and began to work on her appearance and style till the camera turned weak in its knees and audiences were mesmerized beyond doubt.

Rekha’s presence on the silver screen was no longer just beautiful. It was its soul. It was its poetry.

Where most would be content achieving just that, the ambitious actress further experimented with her make-up and hair through edgy, kitschy looks that declined to play safe and challenged the boundaries of fashion.

The gorgeous Rekha turns 60 today. We celebrate this milestone in a compilation of her MOST GLAMOROUS avatars in the movies.

Super Nani

Rekha in Super Nani

In her upcoming release, Rekha plays a neglected grandmother who decides to teach her husband a lesson by taking up modelling on her grandson’s behest. This gives her ample opportunity to flaunt her ageless glitz on screen.

Bachke Rehna Re Baba

Rekha in Bachke Rehna Re Baba

A lousy rehash of Hollywood’s Heartbreakers, Bachke Rehna Re Baba is best remembered for Mallika Sherawat’s innumerable bikini-clad appearances and knockout Rekha’s diva tactics.

Parineeta

Rekha in Parineeta

With her signature red lips and seductive aura, Rekha fills the frames with magnetic vintage vibe in her alluring ‘special appearance’ for the Parineeta melody, Kaise Paheli Zindagani.

Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi

Rekha in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi

Blonde wigs, stylish sunglasses, gloves and ruby red lips distract us from the mostly vampy, hard-hearted persona of Rekha’s underworld queen in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi.

Also remembered for her smouldering make-out session with the much junior colleague Akshay Kumar.

Madam X

Rekha in Madam X

If you’re going to play an over-the-top baddie, style yourself like an over-the-top baddie seems to be Rekha’s mantra as she parades a wardrobe of costume-y numbers and sequined turbans to play the vile Madam X.

It’s outrageous, yes. But Madam Re totally works it.

Khoon Bhari Maang

Rekha in Khoon Bhari Maang

Taking up modeling seems to be Rekha’s preferred mode of revenge. Seeing how much glamour she gets to bring on screen doing that in Khoon Bhari Maang, who can argue?

Utsav

Rekha in Utsav

Proving she’d be a style icon no matter what age we lived in, Rekha embellishes her courtesan Vasantsena with enough bling and blaze to look anywhere else on screen in Shashi Kapoor’s critically acclaimed Utsav.

Jaanbaaz

Rekha in Janbaaz

It’s only a song appearance. But, boy oh boy, Rekha brings the house down with style, sensuality and sequins that’s only befitting for a Feroz Khan production.

Silsila

Rekha in Silsila

Like a true Yash Chopra heroine, Rekha is a picture of exquisite grace and feminity as the classy muse in her kajal-lined eyes, loose tresses, scarlet red lips and pristine white churidars.

Umrao Jaan

Rekha in Umrao Jaan

She’s played a courtesan in many films but none hold a candle to her Umrao Jaan’s adas.

Even the shiniest of pearls and diamonds she adorns cannot outshine the radiance and romance emanating from her big, soulful eyes.

Saajan Ki Saheli

Rekha in Saajan Ki Saheli

Rekha breaks the monotony of the soap opera-like narrative of Saajan Ki Saheli with her chic appearances as Nutan’s point-proving daughter.

Nagin

Rekha in Nagin

Part of Reena Roy’s vendetta spree includes taking the form of different human beings to advance her harsh scheme.

In one such scenario, she transforms into tantalising Rekha wearing a slinky black gown that showcases the famously curvaceous beauty to enticing effect in target Sunil Dutt’s eyes.

Hawas

Rekha in Hawas

Even in her early films, Rekha showed off her glamorous essence in a rather bold manner with a pot-smoking, cabaret for Neetu Singh-starrer Hawas.

Palak Shah, Bollywoodshaadi: A ‘May-December' romance usually takes most of us by an element of surprise. It talks about a relationship in which one partner is in the winter of his life, while the other is in the youthful spring. In simpler terms, it talks about the relationship with unsual age inequality among the couple. We are accustomed to see a young woman falling for an older man. However, when the reverse equation of a younger man and older woman comes in front of us, we raise our eyebrows.

5 Reasons Why Men Fall in Love With Older Women

But if Bollywood statistics are anything to go by, then a cougar relationship- wherein the man is younger than the woman- is not only successful, but is also sustainable. From the likes of Farhan Akhtar to Abhishek Bachchan, many Bollywood stars have found their love in older women. So, let us explore the reasons that make men allured towards older women.

#1. Respectful and responsible

A prominent psychiatrist, Sanjay Chugh feels that, “Just as a woman would look for a father figure or fulfil her needs for protection in an older man, a man would look for a mother figure or fulfil his needs for tender care and love in an older woman.”

Thus an older woman will be nurturing as well as be an epicentre of strength in the times of difficulties. As she has more experiences of life than her partner, her right guidance in tough situations will make him feel more confident.

#2. Gratifying intimacy

As per various studies, it is found that women reach their sexual peak quite later in life as compared to men. In addition, they still look young and hot at that age. On the other hand, older women find young men energetic and more dynamic. This results in an extraordinarily fulfilling physical intimacy. And, this is also a reason most men fall for older women.

Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder (left) have an age difference of eight years, Farhan Akhtar and Adhuna Babhani (bottom-right) have the difference of six years, whereas Archana and Parmeet (top-right) have the difference of seven years. But, this age disparity never seemed to have affetced their relationships.

#3. Women age gracefully

It is true that everyone gets better with age and so does women. According to Atul Verma, a clinical psychologist, “Younger people usually are drawn to older people because they are more mature- and more successful.” As a woman gains experience in life, she becomes more contented. This also inculcates in her a certain degree of financial and emotional stability. This is perhaps the most important factor why a man gets attracted to her.

#4. Strike a better chord

The most striking aspect of any relationship is the communication between the partners. An older woman, who indulges in intelligent conversations, can make a young man go head over heels. This aptly explains, why a happy-go-lucky Ranbir Kapoor gets charmed by much older and ambitious Konkana Sen Sharma in the movie Wake Up Sid. An older woman can not only connect well with her man, but she can also be the one who is more caring, compromising and understanding for her partner.

#5. Age is just a number

In today’s world it is impossible to determine someone’s age. Those whom you may think are in their late thirties, might actually be forty plus. Also, you never ask someone’s age before falling in love, right? Hence, the relationships wherein women are older than their partners, are as justified as the reverse ones.

The power couple of Bollywood- Abhishek Bachchan (left) is two years younger than Aishwarya Rai; Another couple- Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra (right) have the age difference of three months

Life coach Malti Bhojwani, comments on this newly found trend by saying, "What I have noticed is that women in their 30s are breaking away from set society norms and are going out with men who are younger than them." With so many examples already set by the Bollywood couples, we can easily state that love has nothing to do with the age.

Mumbai, Filmfare: Some things never change. Bipasha Basu will forever be the perfect example of sensuousness and sexiness. For more than a decade she’s tempered many a pheromone storm. And she’s been nothing but elegant in the wake of her seductive image. Today she’s committed and settling down but her magnetism refuses to dwindle. The usual tinsel town conspiracies continue to come and go. And it’s all just an indication that Bipasha Basu continues to thrive at the marquee. She’s in a happy space. She’s content in the company of Harman Baweja and blossoming with hit after hit in the horror genre. She’s drawing strength from a stable personal life and reaping the benefits of a rocking vocation. Love is in the air, success is abundant and life is looking up for this beautiful woman.

Exclusive interview of Bipasha Basu with Sajid Khan of Filmfare

What was the experience like of working on Creature 3D?
Director Vikram Bhatt, who is also a dear friend has given credibility to the horror genre. He’d told me he wanted to make a creature film though he didn’t have a script, just a lingering idea. He asked me if I wanted to be part of it. I was thrilled. Who wouldn’t want to do films like Jurassic Park and Anaconda? I wanted to see myself in a film like that. It was fabulous working on the film. When we were shooting, we didn’t know what we were acting or reacting to since the creature was created later in a CGI studio. There was nothing on the sets, we only had to imagine where its eyes were or where it would attack. It was quite tough. Even in terms of special effects, we had to do every shot at least three times, for functioning and logistical purposes. It was a demanding film.

Have you found your niche in horror movies?
If you see my career graph, I’ve done an equal number of films in every genre. Yes, in comparison to other actresses, I’ve done more supernatural thrillers. That’s the only difference. But if a particular genre provides good story telling, entertainment and a different role every time then I will surely do more of such films. As long as I can make an entertaining film where I can perform, why not? Be it Raaz, Aatma or Raaz 3, I had great characters.

Do you get scared when you return home after working on a horror film?
Oh it is scary! I’ve always been easily scared and I haven’t changed a bit even today. I thought these films would help me get rid of my fear but unfortunately it hasn’t happened.

Coming to Humshakals, why did you boycott the promotions?
Boycott is a strong word. If you’ve seen Humshakals you’d know I had only six minutes in the film. I don’t know what was there in it for me to promote. What would I tell my fans? I can’t lie to them. Even I didn’t know what I’d done in the film. Till the last day, I had no clue what the story was about. Why should I promote such a film? Why should I dishearten my fans when I’m not satisfied with what I’ve done in it?

There were rumours...
See, there is no point discussing all this. The film has released and gone. I did not discuss the film then and I don’t want to discuss it now. All I can say is that it was a great experience working with Vashu Bhagnani and Fox Studios. But I did not feel good as an actress doing a film like Humshakals. And I made that clear. However I finished the shoot amicably without asking any questions and without throwing any tantrums. I never objected to anything during the making. I was professional and completed my work.

Have you spoken to Sajid Khan post the release of the film?
I didn’t feel the need to do anything like that.

There were also rumour about a tiff between Bhushan Kumar and you? Apparently you asked for 1 lakh for hair and make-up for promotions?
The people who look after stars are professionals too, they don’t come for free. They aren’t my relatives to work for free. It’s true for all the actors. The contract for a film is the same for a promotional activity. Be it Deepika, Priyanka, Katrina, Salman or Hrithik, all their staff works on money. Why am I the one who’s targetted? Promotional activities happen for a whole month. We work 18 hours a day. Then why would my staff work for free. I will have to pay them for their services. This is part of our contract.

You haven’t worked with any of the Khans in the industry. Is that a regret?
Why should I? They are all my good friends. Shah Rukh, Salman and Saif, all are my friends. If we are offered a good film then we will do it otherwise it really doesn’t matter. At this point in my career, I’m happy. I am happy and proud being myself. I’d never piggy-back on anyone.

Your relationship with Harman Baweja is now public. What was it about him that attracted you?
Companionship is something that you can’t plan. When you connect with the person you just connect. There is no thought process behind it. I’m not the kind of person who gets attracted by money or success. I can’t tell you one thing about Harman that attracted me to him. It is only about connection and the fact that he is also a friend who understands me.

Who proposed first?
What proposal? I don’t remember. It has been a long time. And we are not kids. It all used to happen in school, will you be my boyfriend or girlfriend? No one talks like this now. It’s just the bond. When you become a couple you just know.

When are you planning to get married?
I haven’t thought about it yet. Right now, I have to do a lot more films. When I do get married everyone will know...

Does a break up make you a better person?
Not necessarily. Some completely break down after their break up. Some pick up their life and move on. If you are an intelligent person then you will move on. I don’t think a break up can make you a better or a bad person. It’s life, you have to go through it.

So love can happen more than once?
Love has various forms. It is different at every stage. As a child it’s puppy love. Then as youngster you fall crazily in love. Then there is a point in life when your love has a feeling of permanence. As you grow older, you understand love better. But I always say love yourself. The day you start loving yourself, you will get a stable and secure love life. The meaning of love changes with time.

Is sex important in love?
Absolutely. It is the most important thing especially in maintaining fidelity. Your relationship will fall apart the day it’s not there. For me, if there is no love there is no point in having sex.

What’s the secret to a good relationship?
Friendship, mutual respect and equality. Relationships break when there’s no mutual respect. It’s important to have a balance in any relationship. I should get the respect that I give to my partner. Space is important too. I don’t think you should be into each other 24x7.

What has been the most difficult phase of your life?
The time when I got out of my long-standing relationship (with John Abraham) and had kind of stepped away from my career too. It was difficult to get my life on track. But thankfully I’m an intelligent girl. I realised the value of my life. And once I did that, it was fine. I got a grip on myself.

Who helped you sail through these difficult times?
Family and friends always help you. This is the time when your work is most important. It is true when they say that and empty mind is a devil’s workshop. It’s important that every individual is self driven and passionate. Everyone should do something they love and never give it up for someone else.

What did you learn in such tough times? What would you advise girls to do in such a situation.
Always make yourself a priority. Only then can you love yourself and the other person equally. If you let the other person take precedence over you then you won’t ever be happy in your own life. Often girls make this mistake and that’s a big problem. Secondly, you should be confident. That’s why I say always love yourself.

You are an outspoken person. Has it ever posed a problem for you?
Always. When someone questions me I always reply frankly. Whatever comes to my mind comes to my lips. At times I fail to put across my point in a pleasing manner. A lot of times people take it the wrong way.

So you’re easily misunderstood?
I’m a friendly girl. People can read me wrong. I’m diffrent from my image. I have grown up physically but still feel like a child. We are three sisters and when we go out together, my younger sister protects me like she’s older. I don’t want the child in me to die. I like myself like that.

Any awkward rumours you’ve heard about yourself?
When you’re in the business you are signing yourself to a contract where you will get equal amount of love and hate. So get ready for it and enjoy the ride. You have to know when to disconnect. I know out of 100 people, 50 will like me and 50 won’t. I’m concerned with only those 50 who love me.

What has life taught you?
I feel I have a lot to learn from life. But let me tell you I don’t make too many mistakes. If you leave aside the little glitches, I’m a cautious person. I think a lot before taking any decision. I always protect myself. I don’t let people affect me because I know that people who don’t know me have no right to judge me. Only those who are close to me have the power to make me emotional. I concentrate only on my life. I don’t bother prying into other’s lives.   [ Source: Filmfare]

Over the past few days, there's been a flood of tweets and stories in other media in support of Deepika Padukone's response to a video and tweet posted in the online entertainment section of TOI.

Dear Deepika, our point of view, says Times of India

Deepika Controversy

As one of the largest media houses in the world with interests in print, TV, radio and online, we approach each medium differently, as do our audiences. There isn't a one-fits-all formula for either distributing or consuming content across various media.

On Friday, Deepika wrote on FB: "A character may demand that I be clothed from head to toe or be completely naked, and it will be my choice as an actor whether or not I take either. Understand that this is a ROLE and not REAL, and it is my job to portray whatever character I choose to play convincingly.''

Deepika, we accept your reel vs real argument, but what about all the times, and there have been many, when you have flaunted your body off screen — while dancing on stage, posing for magazine covers, or doing photo ops at movie promotional functions? What 'role' do you play there? So why the hypocrisy? What's equally hypocritical is that several media outlets have freely displayed Deepika's cleavage even as they sounded all outraged on her behalf. Surely they could have reported the story without those pictures?

Yes, the headline could have been better. But the world of online is very different from that of newspapers. It is chaotic and cluttered — and sensational headlines are far from uncommon.

We have always campaigned against the moral police. We believe there's no shame in Deepika showing off her body, but does she now want us to first check with her as to which pictures of her — taken at public events — we can or cannot publish? Are we going to have a parallel censor board for pictures of film stars taken off screen but in plain sight of the world, as Deepika's was? It's not as if the pictures were shot with hidden cameras, or that someone sneaked into her home, invaded her privacy, and took those pictures without her knowledge/permission.

Deepika, who began her career as a 'calendar girl' for a liquor brand, has written, ''Yes we marvel, envy and drool over a male actors 8pack abs in a film, but do we zoom in on the mans 'crotch' when he makes a public appearance and make that 'cheap headlines'??!!'' Deepika, just for the record, we do not zoom into a woman's vagina or show her nipples. As a newspaper, we take every care to ensure that we pixelate them if they show up in a picture, but your cleavage is as sexy as Shah Rukh Khan's '8-pack' abs. Given the nature of the online media worldwide, there could well have been a story headlined, "OMG...Shah Rukh's 8-pack sexy abs!!!" You've also written, ''Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I have little interest to take this further as it might get more attention than it deserves and might be further misconstrued and twisted to sell more undeserved headlines.'' Despite having made your point on Twitter, you have chosen to re-tweet every message and given as many interviews as you could. This has obviously been great publicity for you, timed perfectly with the release of your new film. The video's been on YouTube for a year, why object now?
As for our friends in the media, we wonder if they'll henceforth stop carrying pictures of cleavages, including Deepika's.

Was deepika's hypocrisy for publicity?
